The New Graduate Residency Program is six months in length with potential of additional time for mentorship. The program begins the first week of employment with six consecutive weeks of skills labs and lectures to provide a safe and supportive environment for New Graduate RNs to learn and practice alongside peers and under the guidance of clinical nurse educators. Also incorporated into the first 6 weeks is a Circle of Support which focuses on the new graduate nurse well-being. Residency modules are blended learning with simultaneous didactic and skills lab combined with precepted orientation shifts on the clinical unit during the orientation period. Monthly sessions cover broad based topics pertinent to all new graduate nurses such as health literacy and workplace safety
The pathway is a standard approach for new graduate or new to service nurses in these units to develop the skills and competencies for the patient population. Interactive classes or online modules are offered for remote telemetry, ECG, introduction to telemetry along with unit orientation. Dependent on the unit the nurse will require ACLS certification which is provided at HonorHealth. PCCU nurses are educated using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) online modules, skills labs and unit orientation.
The Emergency Department Academy is an education program using the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) online modules, skills and simulation session, and unit orientation for new graduate or new to ED service nurses. The program is offered on an ongoing basis and at all medical center locations.
The Perioperative Academy is an education program using the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) online curriulum, skills labs and unit orientation for new graduate nurses or new to perioperative services nurses.
